Last week, the MOA course ‘Sensory research B’ started again, with 14 participants from Heineken, Unilever, DSM and Philips, among others. The course is led by Wim Vaessen, general director of Essensor and OP&P Product Research and Joep Brinkman, lecturer in applied psychology at Hanze University Groningen.
In the coming weeks, the students will discover all facets of sensory research on the basis of the book Tasting success’, written by Joep Brinkman. Topics such as the different test designs, panel size, statistics and the questions you ask the panel members will be discussed. In addition to the book, the students also have to deal with various practical assignments, guest speakers and excursions. And during the practical assignment, the entire test cycle will be checked and analyzed on the basis of a study set up by Alard Verhoef, one of Essensor’s Project Managers.
Wim Vaessen: “The course demands a lot from the participants, namely 6 intensive course days (from 12 noon to 9 pm) and at least 6 days of homework from 7 March to 18 April. Every day of the course, however, a Chef is set up in the test kitchen of Essensor, who ‘treats’ all participants on the course days to a 3-course dinner”.
